In sunny tropical Singapore, we definitely love our ice-cream, and our city is not short of incredible creameries.
From famous brands from around the world, to vegan-friendly options and authentic Italian gelato with sweet ingredient twists… We’re spoiled for choice and so are you. Looking for the best ice-cream places in town? Read on to find out!
1. Ever eaten an ice-cream monster before?: Roji Monster Ice Cream
Ever travelled to Taiwan and have been craving their shaved ice-cream rendition ever since? Well, guess what? There’s a new ice-cream spot in town and it just happens to be a famous Taiwanese brand.
Choose from flavours such as Black Sesame, Uji Matcha, Belgian Chocolate and Japanese Milk, and the shaved ice cream comes complete with edible toppings such as monster icing eyes.
2. It’s so good you won’t even realise its dairy-free gelato: Kind Kones
Who said eating ice-cream always had to be a guilty pleasure? We all know it’s not the healthiest of treats around, with all the milk and sugar that goes into making the delicious, creamy stuff. But just as its name suggests, this ice-cream is not only kind on our tummies, but to the environment too.
And they’re actually an all vegan brand – so no egg and milk used here, nor artificial flavourings or colourings. Choose from over 20 different flavours such as Almond Brittle Fudge, Keto Avocado Coconut or Pandan Gula Melaka!
3. Serving small, handcrafted batches made daily: Little Damage
After years of popularity on home shores in LA, California, the guys behind these special soft serves decided to open up a second shop – right here in Singapore!
Sure, we’ve tried charcoal ice-cream, but how about activated charcoal cones made right there fresh, just before eating?! Famous for their cones, their bright ice-cream flavours use local ingredients and are rotated seasonally – and they ensure that there’s always one vegan option.
4. Frozen smoothie pints in zesty flavours: The Juju Bar
As a world in general we seem to be becoming more aware of what we put into our bodies, and how it also impacts our earth, right? Both dairy-free and vegan-friendly, order yourself one of these divine frozen smoothie pints, serving you all the goodness of 100% whole fruits – making them completely refined sugar-free too!
We love that these are labelled as frozen smoothies (still served in an ice-cream tub) and you’ll find the likes of acai, black sesame, dragon fruit and matcha on the menu. Do try their new Houjicha flavour made from pure hōjicha powder, tofu, aot, coconut milk and medjool dates.
5. White Chrysanthemum or Spiced Pear gelato anyone?: Birds of Paradise
This is where all your gelato boutique dreams come true and you may just feel as if you’re savouring a scoop of the creamy deliciousness from Italy itself.
So what makes them extraordinary? They’re inspired – and so are all of their ice cream flavours – by botanical ingredients found in mother nature…and they’re served in scrumptious Thyme cone wafers.
6. For unique flavour combinations: Apiary
This is what artisanal ice-cream is all about and if you’re bored with the mundane flavours found at every other gelato shop in town… You’re going to want to pay Apiary a visit (there are two branches in the city!).
The flavours here are unique and handcrafted, such as their signature Apiary flavour made from Wildflower honey ice cream and with cocoa nibs, or try the Blue Milk, infused with Blue Pea flowers and Himalayan pink salt.
7. Authentic, creamy gelato, just the way it should be: Creamier
If you couldn’t be fussed by all the fancy ice-cream found these days and are just on the hunt for some good traditional gelato, step through these doors and have yourself a scoop (or two) of extra creamy, handcrafted ice cream.
But it’s not just chocolate, strawberry and vanilla on their menus, we recommend trying their Thai Milk or Earl Grey Lavender flavours! They also craft limited-edition flavours that are inspired by the different seasons.
8. Smores’, Horlicks, Cheese Cracker, yup, these are ice-cream flavours here: Merely
There can be nothing worse than walking into a creamery only to find a few ordinary flavours – hey, some of us take our gelato very seriously!
No need to fret at Merely as they certainly aren’t short of ice-cream flavours. There are flavours for everyone including flavours with a little naughty touch of booze in the ice-cream (try their Bailey’s Coffee or Chocolate Stout flavour which contain alcohol).
9. For flavours that keep up to date with the latest trends: Sweet Cheeks
Do you love a bit of texture in your dessert? Handcrafted into small batches that are churned every day, you’ll only find the freshest of ingredients here. That includes actual pieces of ingredients still in your ice-cream, from toasted cereal to honeycomb, lemon curd and cinnamon brown bread…
And it seems they take their sweet stuff seriously, staying on-trend with newest dessert fads, including Cereal Milk flavoured ice-cream, first made famous by Christina Tosi of Milk Bar.
10. Premium ice-cream flavours from around the world: Gelato Labo
Wow – we wouldn’t be totally surprised if you hadn’t heard of some of the ingredients listed in the different flavours available here. And they offer both gelato as well as sorbet options.
Are you a fan of both sweet and savoury in your dessert? Test out the Sakura Smoke, Artichoke and Pear Compote pairing from their gourmet flavour range. For something not as extravagant you’ll love the Colombian Cold Brew & Cookie Butter flavour.
11. Ice Cream that defies gravity!: EMMA Softserve Icecream
Yup, you did read that sentence correctly and for real… When ordering a cone of their swirly-whirly softserve, if you turn it upside down the ice cream doesn’t run – or fall completely upside down on the floor in front of you!
A product of Japan – naturally – they’re served in dark black cones and you can choose from matcha, caramel, chocolate and strawberry.
12. With over 27 flavours to choose from that change seasonally: Tom’s Palette
Talk about fancy shmancy, if you’re a foodie that appreciates an incredible dessert you’ve got to pay this artisanal creamery a visit.
Serving traditional cones and tubs, they also offer an ice cream experience with their teaffogatos – a homemade brown sugar blondie cup, with a scoop of gelato on top and served with cold brew tea. And do try one of their signatures – either their Salted Egg or Yuzu flavour, you can’t go wrong!
13. Almost too pretty to eat: Momolato
Whether you’re vegan, are on a Keto diet, or have a stomach of steel that can handle anything, this ice cream spot serves up all types gelatos, so everyone in the group will be satisfied.
Do order one of their beautiful Popsicles coated with real pieces of fruit, or try one of their Merlion-shaped sticks including a Keto Black Yuzu Lemon sorbet option or Hokkaido Milk with Strawberries. And their actual gelato flavours are just as interesting!
14. Buy two get one free: Chapter 55
At any truly authentic Italian restaurant what do you naturally expect to find? Gelato of course, and when a bistro serves the stuff that’s so good it’s worth just heading there for dessert (or a takeaway pint of it).
For the proper traditional tastes and textures, any one of their flavours will do the trick, and although not an overly extensive range, you’ll discover both classic and more modern twists, from Gummy Bear to Mint Chocolate Chip.
From classic to gourmet, vegan and all natural, Singapore has an ice-cream shop (and flavour) for everyone.
